Must-See Fall Attractions For New Texas Residents

Fall is a wonderful time of the year. The weather cools down and the leaves start to change. Texas in particular is one of the best places to enjoy this colorful season.

If you’re new to the area, or have been around a while, we have some ideas for fun activities to enjoy this fall. Over the past decade people have been flocking to Texas for our food, culture, and nature. In fact, over the last decade only 14 cities have grown by 100,00 people and 5 of those cities are in Texas.

So for all of you that have moved here, or are planning a move, make sure you check out some of these beautiful spots Texas can offer this fall season.

Houston Museum of Natural Science entrance

  1. The Houston Museum of Natural Science

Once the local moving services have helped you get settled in, it may be best to get away from all the moving and unpacking. When you get the chance to take some time for yourself, the Houston Museum of Natural Science is a perfect place for any occasion.

Whether you want fun for the family, a cute date night, or a day out with friends, this place has events and activities to entertain all.

If there are now kids in the picture and you want to have a fun spooky time the museum has an event coming up for you. The party they have dubbed “Spirits & Skeletons” will feature live music, costumes, and drinks for your enjoyment throughout the night in the entirety of the museum.

For the space lovers among us, the Burke Baker Planetarium has several shows dedicated to showing people our cosmos. With their recently upgraded projection system, they can show you the vast stretches of space using industry-leading technology. They have shows for everyone, from black holes and UFOs to Pink Floyd’s iconic Dark Side of The Moon album, there is all kinds of fun.

Also one of the most beautiful attractions the museum has to offer is the Cockrell Butterfly Center. This exhibit features hundreds of species of butterflies, all unique and gorgeous. This can be an educational trip that the kids will love, or a whimsical day with a loved one.

If you need to take a break from your moving stresses, let a professional moving company handle the work while you explore what Houston has to offer.

Lost Maples State Natural Area entrance

  1. Lost Maples State Natural Area

Sometimes after being locked away during the moving process, trying to pack everything and get everything ready, you can find yourself with the desperate need to reconnect with nature.

One of the best ways to do this, especially during the fall, is to visit the Lost Maples State Natural Area. The gorgeous oranges that populate the trees every year are here year round, but during the fall it feels special.

This area is a scenic and beautiful place to take in the natural wonders of Texas. More than just seeing some wondrous trees, you can take the whole family here to go hiking, camping or fishing.

The Texas Parks & Wildlife site describes the area as having “abundant wildflowers, steep canyon walls and the scenic Sabinal River.” All of which add up to a feast for nature lovers. With 10 miles of hiking trails and 30 campsites that have water and electricity, and even some primitive sites that need to be backpacked to, Lost Maples has something for nature lovers on all levels.

People enjoying Waterwall Park in Houston, Texas

  1. Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park

Houston has many iconic attractions that fill the city, one of the most popular is the Waterwall that is located right in the center of the city.

This gorgeous 64-foot-high semi-circular wall is covered in a cascading curtain of 11,000 gallons of recycled water per minute. The monument has to be seen in person to fully appreciate it’s vast beauty. Standing in the spray as the water falls is an experience that every Houston resident must have.

Outstretched in front of the fountain is a large lawn for people to sit out and enjoy the beautiful autumn days as the leaves start to fall. Even once the sun goes down you can go lay out with a blanket and watch the stars as they appear.

After stressfully getting your move completed, this is the calming environment that can help you unwind.

Autumn event at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

  1. Dallas Arboretum And Botanical Gardens

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens have fun events and activities for all.

Autumn in particular is a wonderful time here. For the 16th year running they will have Autumn at the Arboretum, an event where the gardens are transformed to reflect the colors and feelings of fall.

This year, the place will be decorated with 90,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash to bring the gardens to life with, “larger-than-life insect topiaries, fascinatingly bugged-out pumpkin houses, and, of course, a maze for younger visitors.”

And for all the music lovers, the Arboretum will have a concert series throughout October. They also have facilities for those wanting some indoor fun, in particular they have cooking classes. All of you new residents can learn some new recipes and tricks to try out in your new kitchen.
